Shake-A-Leg Miami will host the 16th annual Mid-Winter Regatta drawing physically challenged sailors from around the nation.

In both the Freedom Independence 20 and Access Dinghy Classes, twelve teams consisting of sailors with various disabilities such as spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy along with one team member who is able bodied [in the Freedom class], come to race and socialize with our community and competitors at Shake-A-Leg Miami.

The cost per person for full participation in the four day event is $70.

“Every year we hope to get more and more spectators to have fun and witness these sailors showcase their skills despite their major physical obstacles,” said Allen Fiske, Watersports Center Director.

“Most of us take our bodies for granted. Our job at Shake-A-Leg Miami as well as during this regatta is to increase the community’s awareness about disabilities and ways to overcome them.”
