Webcast of the 2006 IPC Athletics World Championships

ASSEN, The Netherlands – Paralympic track & field fans around the world will be able to watch, for the first time ever, footage from the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Athletics World Championships via the IPC’s Internet television channel: www.paralympicsport.tv.

Paralympicsport.tv will broadcast six four-hour highlight programs with English commentary from September 5-12.

The U.S. Team consists of 34 athletes, 21 of whom are U.S. Paralympians. Approximately 1,500 athletes from 77 countries will compete in the nine-day event, which runs

from Sept. 2-10 in Assen, The Netherlands.

Tomorrow, Saturday, September 2, the 2006 IPC Athletics World Championships will officially kick off with a large Opening Ceremony.

The IPC was, in its capacity as an International Sports Federation for 12 sports, the first IF to initiate its own Internet television channel (www.paralympicsport.tv). Launched at the =2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Torino, the IPC’s Internet television channel saw over 70,000 cumulated viewers from 105 countries, watching an average of four and a half hours during the Paralympic Winter Games. The majority of viewers came from the USA , Italy , Canada , Germany and Japan . The channel also drew five-percent increase of new viewers every day.
