Swimming Thoughts

Swimming thoughts pool view

In my pool, my thoughts swim freely.

Earplugs block the confusion, the lies, the ignorance.

The water grows quiet.

Conversations get stuck in my head.

They occupy space meant for other things.

Here, they repeat themselves.

Here, I can finally see them clearly.

I analyze them.

I decide what to cling to.

I make verdicts as I go.

No bones hurt.

I don’t feel weak.

I can dance with my feet.

I walk back and forth on the steps.

No gravity.

No need to go to the moon.

The pool is my outer space.

Out of my wheelchair.

Out of my limitations.

No worries about access.

No fear of falling.

Finally—

a home with a private pool

for my private thoughts.

It’s just me,

myself,

and I,

figuring out my next move.

The water holds me.

This is my few attempts to share my thoughts in a poetic format. The idea flowed. Thank you for reading it. I would love to know your thoughts on it.

Here is another poem. This poem (click here) was written when I was at the University of Miami. (1988-1993) But I published it here for you.
