Hair Changes, Curl Changes

Many years ago, my hairstylist told me that our hair changes every seven years. I don’t know if that’s science or salon superstition, but my curls have certainly gone through their own identity crisis.

I’ve lived with tight curls, loose curls, waves, and now? A mix of all of them, plus a healthy dose of frizz. Some days my hair spirals perfectly, some days it stretches out, and other days it feels like it’s daring me to fight it.

Frizz isn’t failure—it’s just curls needing extra care. That’s what led me to try the Curlsmith Detox Scalp Three-Step Treatment.

The Detox Ritual

This isn’t your typical shampoo-conditioner routine. It’s a scalp and curl reset in three parts:

  1. Super Slip Pre-Biotic Primer – Primer for the scalp. It softens and preps so the scrub doesn’t feel harsh. My tangles melt down before I even reach for the shampoo.
  2. Wash & Scrub Detox Pro-Biotic – A clarifying scrub-shampoo hybrid with apple cider vinegar and micro-exfoliants. It scrubs away buildup while still respecting my curls.
  3. Post-Biotic Calming Conditioner – Peppermint, tea tree, and hyaluronic acid bring the scalp back to balance. Cooling, soothing, and hydrating all at once.

Used together, the three steps feel like pressing a reset button for both scalp and hair.

The Fragrance

What makes this treatment feel luxurious is the fragrance. The primer has a clean, light scent. The scrub brings brightness from apple cider vinegar and ginger. And the conditioner leaves that cooling herbal freshness of peppermint and tea tree.

The fragrance is strong—I love it. For me, it feels like my scalp just checked into a spa. But for anyone with a sensitive nose, it might be a little intense. It lingers, so you’ll keep catching whiffs of it even after you’ve left the shower.

The Disability Factor

As a wheelchair user, I think about practicality. These bottles are manageable for me—I can open and use all three without extra stress. That matters when you’re already working through a multi-step routine.

But not everyone with a disability will have the same experience. Grip strength, mobility, and dexterity are different for each of us. One of the products requires pumping, and in the shower or tub that can get tricky. Wet hands and slippery bottles are not the easiest combination. So if you use this system, be careful with the pump step and take your time.

If you have a caregiver with the patience and ability to help, then this system is absolutely worth it. It might not be realistic for every wash day, but even once or twice a week makes a big difference in how your scalp feels.

Why I Keep Using It

  • My scalp feels refreshed and hydrated.
  • The dryness I’ve been dealing with gets relief.
  • The scent makes the whole process feel indulgent.
  • The three steps together feel like a reset button.

I’m not expecting it to erase every curl problem, but I am hoping it helps bring balance back to my scalp.

Final Thoughts

Hair has seasons, and mine has changed right along with me. The Detox Scalp Treatment isn’t about going back to what my curls used to be. It’s about giving the curls I have now—and my scalp—a healthier foundation.

I bought this kit myself, no affiliate link, no sponsorship. But Curlsmith—if you’re reading this, you can absolutely hook this diva up.

And like any relationship, I’ll finish using the products as directed. But if I don’t see a major improvement over time, it might just be one of those love affairs that grew apart.
