Mattie J.T. Stepanick, the cherub faced teenager who garnered national attention with his sweet poignant poems about the challenges of life, continues his fight to stay alive and healthy.

Stepanick, the national best-selling author of three books, continues to battle infections from mitochondrial myopathy, a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy (MD). Three of his siblings have already died from the disease, and his mother Jenni has a milder form of it.

Attempts by Audacity Magazine, to reach Mattie for an interview were unsuccessful by deadline. However, a spokesperson for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a group that Stepanick has worked with for several years as they try to find a cure for MD, said in a statement:

“MDA National Goodwill Ambassador Mattie Stepanek has been in and out of the hospital the past few months due to continuing respiratory and other health complications. However, despite his current situation, Mattie’s spirits have remained good. Mattie and his mother have been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support they’ve received from people all over the world. We ask that you continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

Here’s hoping that this life storm passes soon, Mattie
